Sugata Biswas, co-founder of Cadence Communications & Research is an accomplished author, award-winning entrepreneur, and advocate of the servant-leadership management philosophy. He specializes in human behavior and decision-making. In 2008, he co-founded a professional services firm in the life sciences industry which has been featured on the Inc 500/5000 list of America’s fastest-growing private companies three times.

Sugata has over 20 years of experience in consulting and primary market research. He has supported the launch of numerous brands, evaluated potential targets for acquisition, and conducted dozens of qualitative and quantitative market research studies. Previously, Sugata was a Vice President at Interactive Clinical Intelligence (an oncology-focused market research agency). Prior to ICI, Sugata’s professional experience included the large biotechnology company Amgen, IBM Consulting, and Andersen Consulting. Sugata received his BA in Economics from the University of Chicago, MS in Economics from Utah State University, and MBA from Yale University.

Laura Smith, co-founder of Cadence Communications & Research is an accomplished author, award-winning entrepreneur, Laura Smith Biswas is currently co-founder and Managing Principal at Cadence Communications & Research; a global healthcare firm focusing on improving patients’ lives through the services of medical communications and market research. Under her leadership, Cadence has ranked three times on the Inc. 500/5000 fastest growing list.

Laura is at heart a serial entrepreneur who loves exploring entrepreneurial models of work that blend sound principles of psychology with strong business fundamentals. She is passionately engaged in leading as an aware, humanistic leader who believes that a holistic model of work is not only engaging but necessary for the highest levels of success.

Laura also has a growing leadership and relationship coaching practice supporting clients to create a life built on these same fundamentals. She is also a mother of three young adult children and lives in Southern California with her life partner.

She holds an MBA from Yale University and a MS in Spiritual Psychology from the University of Santa Monica.

The company was founded by a woman and a man of Asian descent. As minority business owners we are committed to fostering an environment that is diverse and sensitive to cultural differences. Within our local community we joined the Alliance for Diversity in Science and have been active members for many years.

As a small company with relatively low turnover, we often recruit only during periods of growth. We have an established a diversity goal of 25% of the workforce and revised our recruiting practices to hire more diverse candidates, including people of color, people with disabilities, veterans and members of the LGBTQ community. We currently have met this goal.

Cadence has a platinum medal from EcoVadis. Our rating places us in the top 99th percentile among 5,412 advertising and market research firms. We were rated in the 90th percentile for ethics. We believe this reflects our commitment to our vision and to the wellbeing of our staff.
